Have you ever wondered

What did our ancestors do  for fun in their days?

Have you ever wondered about this? Well in case you don’t know, I am everywhere and on Facebook I started some discussions which seems to be keeping everyone interested and my latest discussion was about Halloween. Well what does this have to do with ancestors?  I didn’t think it did at first but since I posted  on FB I spoke to my Mom who is 92 and would you believe when we were young Dad and Mom dressed up at Halloween and took us children out? We are seven in my family but the time she told me about we were six of us. I had to be around five years old and Mom said that she took old coats and tore the inside linings out, made some costumes and masks and then she even tore up some old clothes for costumes, dressed us and out we went. This paticular day she said they walked to the end of the road (they lived in the country) and when they got there it began raining so our costumes and masks were all sopping wet. When we got home Mom said that the dye from the mask she had made had run down all over her face which made it black.  Now I could not imagine my parents going out on Halloween, so if they went out, what about their parents (our grandparents) Did they celebrate Halloween Night? If they lived in the country and the houses were far apart, did they still go out? These are all things that would be nice to know and to add to our notes about them. And speaking of Halloween ,if you are planning a halloween party for the children or for the adults  now is the time to order your invitations, posters, and even badges and mugs to give out as prizes at your party.

Have you seen my lastest project? I created another website and am adding some of my products from my main gallery there, so if you want to go there it’s at http://www.allicorsshop.acadian-roots.com/    and my main gallery where you will find a lot more of my products is at

http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*

Until next time, keep on looking for your ancestors they are out there somewhere.

Have a great day

Humor and Genealogy

Genealogy like anything else has it’s funny moments, and that is a good thing it keeps us motivated in keeping on going. Sometimes we hit brick walls, then one day they come tumbling down. It might take a long time for that wall to break, but there are so many new resources that seem to appear, places we haven’t looked through, places we don’t think to look through and all of a sudden we hit a  gold mine, well to the researchers it is like a gold mine, or finding that pot of gold (lost ancestor).

I am at the present doing two different surname lines for someone and  I thought “Gee I have that line connected right to the first ancestor recorded ” Not so !  Come to find out, I was barking up the wrong tree, same name, different line. groan. But that didn’t stop me, back to the searching. Oh Boy! Here he is, now I am on the right track. So I am on my way, I know there will be roadblocks along the way but I will get through them.  Now I have decided that I needed to create some funny and some nice genealogy products. I have created some churches and will add more, and I have some funny tee shirt like the one below and more if you go to my genealogy folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*   you will see what I have so far also you can go to my new website at http://allicorshop.acadian-roots.com/     and look there.

So now I am off to to I don’t know what or I don’t know where to start things. grin.

Family Trees

Binder for many uses
Binder for many uses

I am sure many of you watched the television show Roots long ago, and maybe some have watched the latest Who do you think you are. Well I am into genealogy and we have a group, we decided we wanted to do something nice for somebody. So we are calling on anyone who has Acadian Roots meaning someone who descends from the Acadians .The Acadians were in Nova Scotia back then called Acadie and many of them were exiled to Louisiana,The Carolinas, Virginia Haiti . Names such as Gallant,LeBlanc,Landry,Cormier,Doucet,Arsenault,Boudreau,Thibodeau,Breau,Theriault and there are more. So we are going to have a draw for a winner and once we have the lucky winner we will try and trace two of their lines if we can. Now we are not just going to give  dates and places, if we can find little tidbits about them, sometimes it is not possible but sometimes it is then we will add these little stories about them.  You can contact me by leaving a comment here, or you can leave a comment on my other blog at http://acadianroots.blogspot.com .

Now changing the subject how do you like my latest binder? I decided to leave the Title so that it can be named what you it to be. It can be a photo album it can be a scrapbook or a journal or used for collectors. The uses are endless. You can find this binder and many more at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*  And I would like to share that I made a good sale last week, I was very pleased. It is a good feeling to know that someone out there somewhere approves of my designs and products. Until next time have a great day.

Hard Work pays off

Beautiful Mousepad

Beautiful Mousepad

Sometimes it is true, hard work does pay off. I have been working hard on my zazzle gallery. With all the competition out there sometimes you may think it is not worth your while. But I am a person who doesn’t give up too easily. I remember when I first began my family tree, and I was looking for this birth of one of my ancestors, and he was a hard person to find. Every day I would go to the center and look, and look. I did not know this at the time but the president of the center was watching me and he later told me he was expecting me to give up anytime, but I never did and yes I did find my ancestor. So my gallery is the the same, I started not having a clue what I was doing, and even know there are lots of things I have not learned yet, but I keep trying and anyway the day before yesterday I received an email saying I had been given the zazzle artist award for my beautiful Flower Girl Mousepad. I was so surprised. ME ? Winning a zazzle artist award? Well you can bet that I am honored, so this award gave me more of a reason to keep on going. And some sales to go along with my award sure made my day. So yesterday I added some products with my Pigeon image as you can see above. I am proud of my achievements. If you want to see more of my products including my Flower Girl Mousepad that won the award go to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*   And if you get discouraged about anything, do not give up, keep on going, eventually all your work will pay off. Have a great day

Easter Memories

Scottish Tartan
Scottish Tartan

Today is Easter Sunday, it is to celebrate when Jesus rose from the dead. Christian believe that he was crucified  died and ressurected. So this is a big celebration.

I remember when i was young, we had to go to church on Good Friday, then on Easter Sunday. I used to love the Easter celebrations. And with Easter came the Easter Hunts for the children. I remember hiding Easter Eggs all over the house for the kids. And then the meal, it was usually Ham Dinners. And it would not be Easter without an Easter Bonnet and a new outfit. Looking back at some of my hats, I laugh, one paticular one was a box style or pill box style. I cannot believe I wore it, but back then it was the style. Of course we needed a hat to enter church back then. I also remember a school class and we all went to church as a group and I did not have a hat and the teacher gave me a kleenex with two bobbie pins to put on my head. Oh yes those were the days.  How times have changed . But the memories remain. These memories we all have should be written down somewhere, in order for the next generations to be able to read about us and know more than a name date of birth and date of death it is the in between that is interesting.
Now about the tie image, for the ones who do not know, in Scotland the people formed clans example the Clan MacKay, or Clan Wallace and they had their own tartans. Tartan is the material they chose. I created the tie above from the MacDonald tartan. So if you have MacDonald’s in your line and they were originally from Scotland, this is the tie for you. It would make a great gift for a MacDonald friend too. I have more Scotland Tartan products in my clans and tartan folder at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*  and more to come.

Acadians and Cajuns

Acadian Hat

Acadian Hat

Today I would like to talk about Acadians and Cajuns. I have been into genealogy for a very long time, and I have dug in records, wills, census, newspapers and land grants. I have written to parish priests in my search of my elusive ancestors. Now I am not totally Acadian, I have some English blood, french canadian blood and  way way back even a tad of Native American Blood. But I was always intrigued by my Acadian side. I guess to begin with, I always loved Acadian music, the fiddles, the square dances, the stepdancers, the french songs. So I began tracing my Acadian side, Cormiers,Boudreau,Leger,Landry,Breau,Meunier,Martin and so on. Tracing my Cormier line there was a Cormier who escaped from the Fort while he was a prisoner there. He disguised himself as a woman and once free ran for his life. My Leger Ancestor was a drummer soldier he settled in Round Hill Nova Scotia. My Cormier ancestor came over at the age of 8 and he became the founder of the Cormiers in Acadie and even in Louisiana. Which brings me to the Cajuns. After the deportation of the Acadians in 1755, many of them were sent in various vessels all over the place, to North Carolina, Virginia,Massachussetts,Haiti ,France etc. Later on Louisiana offered some Acadians some land  and the Acadians accepted . Some later went to join their relatives and friends. These Acadians were later to become know as Cajuns. You have heard the jokes about Boudreaux and Thibodeaux? Well if you notice the X at the end of their names, they spelled it that way later on, before that the Acadians spelled it Boudreau or Boudrot and Thibodeau.I have met many Cajuns on line, and the similarities between them and the Acadians are amazing. We share many of the same sayings, we both love music and fun, and families are important to. I love Cajun musicians,Zacharie Richard,Doug Kershaw ,Joel Saulnier and more.Acadian singers that I like are Edith Butler, Barachois, the Arsenaults among others. The Cajuns and Acadians love festivals, Cajuns have Mardi Gras,Acadians have Acadian Days. In the year 2014 there will be a gathering called the CMA2014, or Acadian World Gathering, to be held in Maine USA, Northern New Brunswick and Quebec with Acadian descendants coming from all over the world, which is a site to behold. I am hoping to meet many new Cajun cousins along with Acadians ones too. Now I have created some Acadian and Cajun articles in my gallery, I have surname hats, I have tee shirts, badges, buttons, mugs ,I have Cajun shoes,Acadian shoes , so if you are in the vicinity I hope you will stop by and check out my Acadian,Cajun and surname folders at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*

Thanks for the visit

Have a great day

Emails and Scams

Cartoon images on Children Shoes

Cartoon images on Children Shoes

First of all before I talk about the image, I would like to talk about the emails we get and how some of them are scams and dangerous to open. Have you ever gotten emails from the following  yahoo,MSN,Pay pal, banks, and anything else familiar with your personal accounts? Well don’t open them, delete them, they will say something like they need to update your accounts, they ask for your name ,passwords, account # etc, don’t do it, delete it. Yahoo once told me they would never send any such mail to anyone. If you have more than one email, you will sometimes notice these same messages coming to your other mail too. Don’t open them ,just delete them. Also have you ever gotten mail saying one of your friends wants you to join them, you have to click accept? Don’t do it, contact that friend personally and ask them if they sent it and what it is all about. Also not sure how true this is, but all the jokes you get which are forwarded? I would check into that too, I don’t usually forward jokes and I usually delete them when I get them. There is so much stuff going on ,on the internet, sometimes it is scary. So please be very cautious at opening your mail, I don’t open greeting cards because they can be a virus. Someone can also steal you identity , I had an email which I deleted where I was getting letters to me from me with my very same email addee selling Viagara. So beware and be careful.

Now getting back to the shoes above, these are Keds Children Shoes, you can buy them with laces or slip ons, I think these are great for any child, I have created lots more of them with different designs and also I have created ladies and mens shoes if you are in the vicinity do stop by and have a look at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*

Thanks for the visit, I do hope the above advice will be worthwhile

What are fads?

What are fads? Who creates them? Have you ever wondered?

Well first of all Fads are crazes,or things started by one certain person and everyone wants to do it. Hula hoops was a fad, and do you remember back when everyone had a hula hoop. What about the yoyo? It was also a fad.Bobby Sox ,Duck tail,Brush Cut,yes they were all fads. What about the Iroquois hair cut? Bell bottom slacks or pants ,the mini skirts, the bikini, all these were fads  started by someone. Now  Zazzle has Keds shoes for men , women and children, many zazzlers have created their own unique styles and designs. So hopefully these shoes may become fads. Be the first to buy them and wear them. See how many friends will follow you.I have created some men, women and children shoes, I am quite proud of my own ideas and I do hope you will also like them. I shall be adding more later. So I hope you will got to http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*  click on shoes and find a nice pair to suit you.

Thanks for stopping by,hope to see you again

Where has Zazzyallicor been?

Hello everyone, no I did not leave, and I know many have been wondering why I haven’t blogged in a while.Well I was scheduled for surgery late Feb. so I figured it would be nothing, I would be up in no time. Had foot surgery, how bad can that be, I said to myself, oh in two days I will be up walking. Not so, I was so very wrong. The pain was unbearable, two days later guess what? I felt this rash along my jaw line, I thought it must be the pillow from just lying there. The next morning I got up and lo and behold the rash had spread all under my neck, side of my face into my scalp. Looked at the side effects from my pills, oh no, if a rash appears go to the ER. So off to the ER I went. The doctor came,I was expecting him to say yep you got a bad allergic reaction. But he looked at me and the rash and said,”My dear you have the shingles. So am on meds for ten days.So as you can see, I had a reason for not coming to see you .My friend also landed in the heart hospital,is out and has to return for heart surgery. Surely all this will be over soon.

In the meantime I am up in my wheelchair, took a few steps today and I went and created more stuff for my gallery. If you happen to go to my gallery at http://www.zazzle.com/allicor*  and click on the tee shirts you will see my latest monster or creature t-shirt called weido. I wonder if you will know what it is?I can tell you it is a one of a kind monster. He is on the back of some hoodies ,too. I created a few more mugs, and even new shoes .Did you know that I now create men’s shoes too? There are two kinds, the hi rise and the low, they are athletic shoes, so have a look at those while you are checking my gallery. I will try to come back very soon, in the meantime, do not thing I have forgotten you.

Until then have a great day
